Personnel: Robert Smith – vocals, guitar, keyboards :: Lol Tolhurst – drums :: Simon Gallup – bass .

Notes:  Complete show with final song 'A Forest' dedicated to Robert Palmer.
From liner notes : "As Robert misremembers in his book, 'Ten Imaginary Years', 'We'd only been on for about a half an hour and everything was running late so Robert Plamer's road crew started motioning to us to stop. This bloke ran on and said "If you don't stop playing, we're gonna pull the plug'. Simon immediately walked to the mike and shouted 'Fuck Robert Palmer! Fuck Rock'N'Roll!' and we were started playing a really slow version of 'A Forest' which lasted about 15 minutes. It was fucking brilliant. Unfortunately, when we finished, they threw all our stuff off the back of the stage..."
In fact, the song was not slow but long, with Robert singing alternate lyrics 'such a long end!', not 15 but around 9 minutes, and Simon Gallup didn't shout before but after.

Soundboard quality, released in 3-panel fold-out digi-sleeve.
Liner notes, Picture Tour May-July 1981 dates and live shoots printed inside.
CD in additional die-cut paper sleeve with clear plastic on the die-cut side.
The intro is a speech of a dutch journalist on crowd noises, this speaker repeats the Simon's 'Fuck Robert Palmer! Fuck Rock'N'Roll!' at the end of the last song. (discogs.com)

By the time The Cure played Werchter in July 1981 they had already begun their turn from pop into precursor goth. This was their first of many appearances at the Werchter Festival in Belgium. Filmed and broadcast, all titles of with this material originate from the radio broadcast.

One of the first CDs with this show is Unplugged And More (CDLC001). Much of the disc is occupied with the 1991 Unplugged set. The 1981 part is missing “A Forest.” A complete version was released afterwards called Kiss Me For Cure (ROLA 015) also with excellent sound. Fuck Rock ‘N’ Roll! on Godfather also contains the complete show and is sourced from an excellent recording of the radio broadcast. A DJ can be heard speaking, but doesn’t interfere with the music.

Their hour long set is deliberate and brilliant for the time. The title comes from bassist Simon Gallup’s statement at the end. According to Robert Smith, Robert Palmer’s road crew were trying to get The Cure off the stage so they could get everything ready for his set. The oblige by playing their song “A Forest” very slow, stretching the three minute song to three times its length.

Godfather package the show in a trifold gatefold sleeve with photos of the event including the front cover of Smith. It’s a good title for The Cure collector to have. (collectorsmusicreviews.com)
